But of course as it creates a huge impact on the appearance of your bathroom, we might as well choose one that suits the bathroom theme as well as your personality. Although there’s not many that one can do to make the bathroom look real nice, getting the proper bathroom curtains for windows can really help your room stand out.
When you have decided on the theme that you will go by, next to plan is the window treatment. We do need to put some effort and thoughts on this as bathroom windows are so small, they would stand out.
The easy way is getting a matching shower and window curtain. These are widely available in many stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, Curtain and Bath Outlet, or JCPenney.com.
This will definitely make it easier to keep a solid theme in your bathroom, but because you will not always find matching sets in the colors that you want, you may need to choose window treatments that would compliment, rather than match.
As usual, you will need to take measurements of the shape and size of your bathroom window. Most bathrooms would have small windows, and for this, curtains in café style would add privacy in the color that goes with the room’s theme. Another option would be just putting a valance to cover only the top, leaving more window exposed to let the light in.
For larger windows, then consider long curtains or even drapes, but not the heavy kind.
If there is a certain theme, like for instance in children’s bathrooms, you may want to choose curtains that complement the theme. If you already have patterned wallpaper, then choose a base color from this wallpaper and get curtains that of that color in one solid shade. This compliments rather than making the room busy.
Material
There is a lot of choices in material available in the market. Although it may seem as a challenge at the start, you could begin with the material that you like. You could also look into the ease of care and maintenance. Most materials are machine washable.
Some of the choices you can look at:
- Sunscreen – Normally in the form of shades or blinds. You can keep the window open and the shades drawn. Private yet air is filtering through and keeps humidity out.
- Cotton – 100% most times, easy to clean, easy to wash.
- Chintzes – Glazed calico cloth. Basically raw cotton.
- Voile – Delicate cotton. Check the label to make sure it’s washable.
- Poly cotton Prints – to ensure that these will not shrink anymore after your first wash, you would have to make the curtains or shades yourself. As before cutting and sewing it, you will need to wash the fabric first. Same procedure goes for other materials that shrink.
- Linen – woven or knitted linen is good material for roman shades.
- Sunbrella Fabric – Normally used for awnings, this material can be used as well on shades and blinds. It’s designed to repel moisture and heat.
Support
Depends on your choice of material, will be the mechanism to hang them curtains. There are varied choices of tension curtain rods, or if these were roman shades or blinds, they go with their customized hardware.
If your window is the arch or half-moon type, you got the option to install the valance right under the arch, and from there the curtains will be. But to keep the sun from shining through that arch, you could make use of paper window shades that you can shape into a fan right onto the arch. They are easy to install and quite inexpensive too.
